Hot flashes or night sweats waking you up at night? You donβt have to face it alone. Participate in a hot flash research study and contribute to womenβs health advances.
What Causes Hot Flashes?
Hot flashes are most commonly caused by changing hormone levels before, during and after menopause. It’s not clear exactly how hormonal changes cause hot flashes. But most research suggests that hot flashes occur when decreased estrogen levels cause your body’s thermostat (hypothalamus) to become more sensitive to slight changes in body temperature. When the hypothalamus thinks your body is too warm, it starts a chain of events β a hot flash β to cool you down.
Hot Flashes Symptoms:
- A sudden feeling of warmth spreading through your chest, neck and face
- A flushed appearance with red, blotchy skin
- Rapid heartbeat
- Perspiration, mostly on your upper body
- A chilled feeling as the hot flash lets up
- Feelings of anxiety
At what age do hot flashes typically start?
Hot flashes are a symptom of menopause that can happen as you go through this transitional phase of life. On average, menopause happens in your late 40s to early 50s. This can vary depending on each person.
About the Study
Understanding Vasomotor Symptoms: Hot Flashes and Night Sweats
A hot flash is a sudden feeling of warmth that spreads over the body, often accompanied by sweating and a rapid heartbeat. Most research suggests that hot flashes occur when decreased estrogen levels cause your body’s thermostat (hypothalamus) to become more sensitive to slight changes in body temperature.
This clinical research study is being conducted to compare the effect of an investigational option versus a placebo for reducing hot flashes in women.
Investigational Option
Evaluates the effectiveness of the investigational drug for reducing hot flashes.
Placebo Option
Compares the investigational drug against a placebo to assess its relative impact.

Who Can Join
To qualify, you must be:
A woman between 40-65 years old
Experience hot flashes and night sweats on a regular basis
Experience menopause-related vasomotor symptoms
