Are you experiencing hair thinning on the top or crown of your head? Researchers are conducting a clinical research trial to evaluate an investigational once-daily topical gel for men with male pattern hair loss.
This study is evaluating an investigational topical gel for male pattern hair loss to better understand its safety and effects on hair growth. All study-related care, scalp evaluations, and investigational gel are provided at no cost, and health insurance is not required to participate.
About the Study
Male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) affects millions of men, causing hair follicles on the scalp to shrink and produce thinner, shorter hair over time.
This clinical research study is evaluating an investigational topical gel called PP405 to better understand its safety and effects on hair growth.
The main purpose of this study is to test how effective and safe this topical gel is when applied once daily over a 61-week period compared to a matching gel without active ingredients (a placebo gel).

What to Expect
Participating in a clinical trial is a commitment, and we want you to know exactly what to expect every step of the way:
Study Duration
The total study duration is approximately 61 weeks (about 14 months). This includes a brief screening phase, an active treatment phase where you will apply the gel once daily, and a final safety follow-up.
Study Visits
- In-Person Visits: You will visit our clinic in 13 times over the course of the study (spaced roughly every 6 weeks).
- Phone Call: You will have 1 final safety follow-up call about a week after finishing your study treatment.
Daily Treatment
You will apply a small amount of clear topical gel (about 1 pump) once daily to the thinning area on the crown of your head.
You will track your daily applications using a quick, easy-to-use electronic diary on a smartphone.
Health Assessments & Progress Tracking
At your clinic visits, our medical team will perform routine health checkups to monitor your safety and track your hair growth progress:
- High-Resolution Scalp Photos: Detailed photographs will be taken of your scalp to measure hair count, density, and thickness over time.
- Micro-Tattoo Tracking: To ensure photos are taken in the exact same spot every time, a tiny, dot-sized tattoo mark will be placed in a discreet location on your scalp.
- Routine Safety Checks: Physical exams, vital signs, and standard blood and urine laboratory tests will be conducted.
- Feedback Questionnaires: You will complete brief surveys sharing your thoughts on your hair progress, hair quality, and overall satisfaction with the product.
Compensation
Qualified participants may receive up to $4650 for study-related time and travel. The local study team will explain the amount during the informed consent process before you decide whether to join.
