Overview
Pneumonia vaccines help protect people from dangerous bacterial infections. This pneumonia vaccine research study is evaluating an investigational pneumonia vaccine to see how well it works and how safe it is for healthy adults ages 18 to 49.
About the Study
The goal of this study is to see how the study vaccine compares to an already approved vaccine in protecting adults against the bacteria that cause severe lung, blood, and brain infections.
Why this pneumonia vaccine research study matters for adult health
Standard vaccines are highly effective, but bacteria change over time. This Phase 3 study compares a new study vaccine against a pneumonia vaccine that is already approved and widely used.
Here are the key reasons doctors are researching this version:
- Defending Your Health: This study focuses on shielding adults from Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria, which are a leading cause of severe bacterial pneumonia.
- Evaluating the Study Vaccine: While standard vaccines protect against many common types of these bacteria, this study vaccine includes protection against additional strains known to cause severe illness.
- Protection Beyond the Lungs: Because these exact same bacteria can travel to other parts of the body, this vaccine aims to prevent other serious, invasive conditions—including dangerous blood infections (sepsis) and meningitis.

- Examples include asthma, diabetes, or high blood pressure that have remained stable without hospitalization or major treatment changes during the past 12 weeks.
*Additional inclusion/exclusion criteria may apply
Not sure if you qualify? That’s okay.
A member of our recruitment team will review your medical history and medications with you to see if the pneumonia vaccine research study may be right for you.
You may also qualify for other studies.
Why You Should Join

What to Expect
Your journey through the pneumonia vaccine research study
We know your time as a parent is precious, so we want you to know exactly what to expect from day one:
- Study Duration: Your participation in the study will last for approximately 6 months.
- Study Visits: There are only 3 visits total over the course of the study. Two of these are regular visits to the local study clinic, and the final check-in is just a quick, convenient phone call from the comfort of your home.
- Medication & Vaccine Schedule: You will receive 1 single dose of the study vaccine given as a routine shot in your upper arm muscle during your very first visit.
- Simple Health Monitoring: After your injection, you will use a secure smartphone app (an electronic diary) for just 7 days to log simple details like your temperature and if you experience any temporary arm soreness or redness.
- Immune System Checkups: To see how well your immune system responds to the vaccine, the medical team will perform a routine blood draw 2 times across the study (once at your first visit and once at your follow-up clinic visit).
- No Costs & Compensation Available: You do not have to pay for the study vaccine, medical exams, or clinic checkups. Compensation or reimbursement is available to help cover your travel expenses and your time at the clinic.
